Military Couples Saluted On Carnival Miracle At Port Tampa Bay

April 30, 2018.

Carnival and Operation Homefront host 100 couples for a ‘day date’ with fun and laughs

Carnival Cruise Line, which carries more active and retired military personnel than any other cruise operator, joined forces with Operation Homefront Sunday, April 29, 2018, to host a “day date” event for 100 military couples aboard Carnival Miracle at Port Tampa Bay in Florida.

The red carpet was rolled out for the couples who came on board for a day-long escape that included lunch and a comedy show with sets by Carnival Cruise Line comedians Jim Brick and Chase Elstner. To honor the attendees for their service to our country, Carnival also presented their Military Appreciation Salute, a tribute that is held for active and retired military personnel and their families who sail on every cruise. The salute features the showing of the colors (flags), the branch songs and National Anthem, concluding with all members of the military being invited on stage for a group photo.

This event is part of a continuing partnership between Carnival and Operation Homefront, a national non-profit organization that builds strong, stable and secure military families. During its Honor.Family.Fun. program, Carnival focused on the importance of deployed military moms and dads re-learning how to play with their families once they’re back home. Since 2017, these programs have helped raise awareness and funds for Operation Homefront. Carnival will be hosting a series of these events at different home ports this year with locally based military personnel.

Tampa is an important homeport for Carnival Cruise Line and home to Macdill Air Force Base. Carnival operates two year-round ships out of Port Tampa Bay — Carnival Miracle and Carnival Paradise — carrying an estimated 280,000 passengers annually from Tampa, the most of any cruise operator.

The invitation-only event, which will take place in New York City on May 23, will celebrate the ship’s U.S. arrival and benefit one of Carnival’s primary charitable partners, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, based in Elliott’s adopted hometown of Memphis, Tennessee.

Part of the line’s popular reproduction of the hit Paramount Network series, Lip Sync Battle: Horizon will feature Elliott and Latifah with their unique interpretations of today’s pop hits, accompanied by Carnival Horizon’s Playlist Productions cast, in the ship’s Liquid Lounge.

Elliott joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 following a career at the University of Memphis where he was named All-American after his junior season.  During his first season with the Eagles he booted a franchise-record 61-yard field goal that is also the longest for an NFL rookie.  He went on to help the Eagles secure their first-ever Super Bowl victory by hitting a clutch field goal with 1:04 left in the game.  Elliott is also an active philanthropist, spearheading a T-shirt campaign around the Super Bowl with proceeds donated in memory of a former classmate whose family funds scholarships to students in the community.

Carnival Horizon’s naming ceremony will also feature a check presentation to St. Jude with monies raised via various activities leading up to the event. Carnival will also unveil custom-designed artwork created by 33 St. Jude patients that will appear on the “Dreamscape,” a stunning three-deck-high LED sculpture that takes center stage in the ship’s atrium.

Carnival Horizon will operate a summer schedule from New York May through September then launch year-round Caribbean cruises from Miami later that month.

Holland America Line Celebrates 145th Anniversary

April 18, 2018.

Holland America Line is celebrating its 145th anniversary today,  marking its place in history as one of the most experienced cruise lines in the world. What started as shipping and passenger line Netherlands-American Steamship Company in 1873, is today a premium cruise line taking guests to more than 400 ports around the world, sailing to all seven continents.

Within 25 years of its founding, the company owned a fleet of six cargo and passenger ships and operated between Holland and the Dutch East Indies. Because it was headquartered in Rotterdam and provided service to the Americas, over time the company became known as Holland America Line.

Though transportation and shipping were the primary sources of revenue, in 1895 the company offered its first vacation cruise. The line was primarily a carrier of immigrants from Europe to the United States until well after the turn of the century, bringing nearly one million people to new lives in the New World. It supported the Allied cause during two world wars and several ships served as troop carriers. In 1973, the company sold its cargo shipping division.
Through the early ‘70s, Holland America Line was the first to establish schools in Indonesia and the Philippines to train future employees, thereby making its shipboard service renowned in the industry.  Holland America Line has been headquartered in Seattle since 1983.  Purchased by Carnival Corporation in 1989, the company grew to new heights, embarking upon a shipbuilding path that has seen the introduction of 16 new vessels over the years to the line’s fleet.

The Legacy Continues with Nieuw Statendam
In December 2018, Holland America Line will welcome Nieuw Statendam to the fleet. Nieuw Statendam is the second Pinnacle Class ship for Holland America Line, joining Koningsdam, which launched in April 2016. A third Pinnacle Class ship will set sail for the cruise line in 2021.

The new 99,500-ton ship will reflect the ongoing evolution of the company. Holland America Line’s first ship to be called Statendam sailed in 1898, and this will be the sixth ship in the company’s history to carry the name. In combining the Dutch word for “new” with the classic Statendam, Holland America Line is celebrating the company’s past, present and future.

Carnival Adding Late Night Lido Buffet Snack Menu

April 9, 2018.

Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald announced today that the cruise line is rolling out a new late night snack menu, offering a small selection of sandwiches, pasta, a soup, and some cookies.  John said it will be offered in the Lido Buffets and will be available from 11:30pm until 1:00am.  This is in addition to the 24 hour Pizza Pirate which will continue to serve made-to-order pizzas.

This comes on the heels of Carnival announcing fees for late night room service orders, which didn’t go over well with many Carnival fans.  This offers another option that is included in the cruise price.
